OUR APPROACH
I-Kanda Architects is an award-winning architectural design practice that creates buildings and spaces that are modern yet enduring – equal parts purpose and sculpture.
The firm’s built work broadly ranges from mountainside cabins to penthouses, barns to boutique homes.
Each project is approached as a new array of needs and desires from which to craft uniquely enhanced environments for individual and communal enrichment. The firm aims to turn constraints into possibilities - to work collaboratively with clients, specialists and craftspeople to realize ideas that far exceed initial hopes.
Since its inception, the Boston based firm’s work has graced the covers of Boston Globe Magazine and Boston Home Magazine, and been published in Dwell, Dezeen, AN Interior and Azure. The firm has been awarded the AIA Design Honor Award by the Boston chapter of the American Institute of Architects, the Architizer A+Award, the AN Best of Design Award, the Best of Boston Home Award for Urban Architect, and was selected as "Next Progressives" by Architect Magazine.
OUR TEAM
ISAMU KANDA
AIA, PRINCIPAL
Isamu is the Founder of I-Kanda Architects, bringing over 15 years of experience to the firm. Prior to founding I-Kanda, Isamu was a senior associate at Arquitectonica International, and previously worked for Preston Scott Cohen, FTL Happold, and Santiago Calatrava. Isamu draws on a broad background of residential, cultural, and commercial projects; ranging in size from 2,000 SF to 2,000,000 SF, located throughout the U.S., Europe, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. He received a Bachelor of Science in Structural Engineering from Cornell University and a Masters of Architecture from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Isamu has studied and worked in France, Italy and Japan. He has been a visiting architectural studio critic at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Northeastern University, Wentworth Institute of Technology, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects and is a licensed Architect in MA, NY, NH and ME.
Isamu’s motivation stems from an ongoing experimentation with how geometry, structure, light and circulation can be shaped to inspire an elevated interaction with our surroundings. In his free time, he enjoys juggling 2 sons, gut-renovating their 1850’s townhouse, and riding Japanese motorcycles.
MARLEY WRIGHT KANDA

Marley’s motivation lies in designing for and connecting individuals with buildings and homes that live, breathe, and are experienced through ever-evolving combinations of lifestyle, art, objects, materials, and spatial sequencing. In her free time, she enjoys juggling 3 boys, fashion, traveling, running, and yoga.
KUN YANG
ARCHITECT

He then worked for Acorn Deck House as a project architect and Hisel Flynn Architects as a project manager. Alex is a licensed Architect in MA.
In his free time, when there's snow, he likes to ski. When there isn’t snow, he likes to get into the woods to ride his bike. Some say he has a soft spot for cars with three pedals.
